Really nice and complete Linkert M741
carb.
In addition to 741, these carbs also
work great on earlier Scouts including
101
- and Fours too, for that matter -
and are 15-20 years younger and usually not as worn as the original Scheblers!
I will find some better manifold screws and put a modern float in the box
with it. Like other 80 year old carbs, it will need looking over, and likely
new parts like throttle shaft bushings and maybe a few more minor parts.
All these parts are available new (see link below). Hardcore repair work
should not be needed with this carb. See pictures of bowl stem float, carb
throat where the throttle disc sits, and general condition.

Exceptionally nice Schebler DLX 51
for
1928-30
45" (750cc) 101. I have been holding on to this last one in
the hope that I would get another
101 some day, but I doubt that is going to happen now, so time to let
it go to someone who really needs it.
Like the Linkert, but even more so with
96 year old Scheblers! Most are now really worn out or damaged, but this
one has very little wear (look at the pictures of particularly the throat
where the throttle disc sits and the bowl stem thread). So it should be
a pretty straightforward rebuild. All major parts are available new.

Survivor Motolamp.
Old but probably not original red paint. Indian used this basic
headlamp shell on all models from the
last 101 in 1931
and until 1947. From 1931 to 1938 with a small L-bracket for the
rim, where the square hole is now. Easy to make a bracket. The bracket
continued to 1938, but in 1937 the round wiring hole was replaced by a
"junction block" wiring plug in a square hole, so this shell is from between
1931-36
but
it can be used for all years. I guess someone removed the bracket to use
the new bracket-less 1939-47 rim.

H-D 1280-30 auxiliary
clutch
lever. This is an odd part. H-D traditionally had the brake lever on
the left handlebar and this is for the right side (Indian-style). I bought
it many years ago as it is just like a 101
brake lever but a little longer (extra
braking!), but it was originally meant to help 1930-on H-D riders with
the clutch. I put it here in the Indian department as it would be cool
on a 101 or similar - and maybe even improve braking!

1928-31 101 primary

not to know!), but in reasonable condition, and with good teeth for a 96

33T, 36T and 84T. 1920-27 Scout used 30T, 40T, 77T.

generator
drive, complete and in good condition
for its age, but with a broken flange like most of them have now. 101
used the same drive only with four mounting screws instead of the earlier
two (see primary covers above) and when you repair the flange, you could
probably make it fit a 101 instead of an ealier Scout if you want. See

27C39X brake pedal with what looks
like perfectly patinated original paint. The original bolt needs to
be turned down to remove wear and a custom bushing made; if I get to it
before someone buys the pedal I will. Choice of Alemite or Zerk grease
nipple included. Used on:
Scout
1927, 101 1928-31, Prince, Pony, Motoplane, Junior Scout to 1939, Four
from the 401 in 1928 up to and including the 1936 model, and on Sport Scout
from 1934-39. Indian obviously really liked
this brake pedal!

Handlebar sleeves with spirals
and collars. All models 1941-53
(earlier models had pretty similar parts but shorter sleeves; watch
if cables push or pull if you are going to use unknown sleeves on an earlier
model!). Great patina :-) They look worse than they are and will clean
up well (blasting them is probably easiest). Threads in collars are good,
and I will throw in a new pair of "Indian" rubber grips. See pic link below.

Cylinder heads for 1940-42 Bonneville
Sport Scout. Nobody makes these
new, as far as I know, and they could be useful in a couple of scenarios
(apart from restoring a Bonneville 640-642, of course). You
can use these heads as tuning parts on any Sport Scout with 1940-42 cylinders
and Bonneville pistons (Enfield Racing has the pistons). These
heads were blasted before welding repairs to the fins many years ago, but
not blasted after welding. If you maybe go over them with a Dremel to lightly
clean up the last details and then blast them, these heads could end up
looking really nice.

More Bonneville
head pix/info -> |
Bonneville heads have a recess for the
piston to "pop up" (same on Bonneville Chief). If you are building a stroker
engine, this may come in handy for adapting pistons from another engine.
If you are building an all-out racing engine with domed pistons and matching
cylinder heads, welding and machining the combustion chambers to match
the piston domes, these heads could give you a ... ehh... head start on
that.
|
Generally, the standard ~ .063" or 1,6
mm gasket thickness is OK for clearance between piston and head. So a flat-bottomed
cylinder head is good for a piston just coming to the top of the cylinder
at TDC, and the Bonneville heads are good, as they are, for a piston that
sticks
up about 1/8" ~3 mm at TDC. You can adjust piston clearance with different
thickness head gaskets, and/or machining of head or piston crown (and/or
taking a little off the cylinder top deck, which can also help with sunken
valve seats). Thicker gaskets (or a gasket shaped metal plate) under the
cylinders can also be used for piston vs cylinder height adjustment. |
NOS WW2 military switch,

they are otherwise identical). 741,

after the first few military Indians switches became common between the
two factories).

Speaking of patina... a 17B3 fork adjusting
cone nut, for a really unrestored Indian! This is one of the
longest running Indian parts, used on the 1919-21 Powerplus, 1920-27 Scout,
1928-31 101, 1932-37 Standard Scout, 1922-45 Chief, and Fours from the
1928 401 to the last of the line in 1942.
The fork stem in the pic is another of
my "test pieces" (see link under handlebar sleeves above) for checking
parts, and I also have taps and dies for most Indian threads. All Indian
leaf spring forks from at least 1919 to 1945 used a 1-1/8"x24 fork stem
thread.

rear half; front half has been to war! The front half still has both its
original brackets and is generally solid and usable. There is a weld repair
(see pictures) that could use a little filler if you want to paint it to
look nice and new, but will work as it is for an unrestored bike that is
allowed to show its age through a few scars. New 1/4"-24 nuts and washers
to join together the two halves are included. I may also have the rest
of the bolts and nuts in stock.

front brake plate. Lightly modified but not hard to save. Not so easy
to find 741 chassis parts, so this brake plate is much better than nothing.
Someone cut the arm short; there are a few obvious ways to fix that. The
speedometer drive hole was plugged with a cap from something glued in;
not hard to fix that either! (or leave it plugged and use a bicycle speedo
if you don't have the rest of the 741 speedo parts).
